Three Rivers

Welcome on the website of the Three Rivers bicycle route and the South Transdanubian section of the Iron Curtain Trail (EuroVelo 13)

The cycle route “Three Rivers” has been signposted between Barcs and Mohács as part of the eponymous INTERREG IIIA project. Since 2007 “Three Rivers” has become a real brand: identified with excellent environmental conditions, unspoiled nature of the Drava valley, the living local traditions, the gastronomic and wine tourism offer of the “most Mediterranean” region of Hungary. Number of domestic and foreign guests visiting the region is constantly growing, cycling tourists are on the rise, more and more regular tourists choose to ride a bike to discover the picturesque towns and villages being located in a comfortable cycling distance from each other.

As important event of cycling tourism development of the region is to be mentioned that the border zone of the former Western and Eastern bloc under the name “Iron Curtain Trail” has become part of the European cycle route network, as the route EuroVelo 13. The Iron Curtain Trail is a trans-European route of more than 7000 kilometres between the Barents and the Black Sea, crossing 20 countries. Following the line of the former Iron Curtain it recalls memories of the Cold War and the excellent natural conditions resulted by the untouched nature.

The project “Iron Curtain Trail”, supporting the establishment of the new homepage, has been started in 2012, with the aim of defining the optimal route of EuroVelo 13 in the Southeast European space, promoting connections between cycling and public transport and international promotion of the route. The project is implemented by the co-financing of the European Regional Development Fund, through the Southeast Europe Transnational Cooperation Programme.
